Criteria for New Member

Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Member of the Institute shall have attained the age of 25 years, received a general education approved by the Council and either:

• (A) Both of the following:
  • Have been educated as a physicist in a manner satisfactory to the Council and have obtained an honours degree or its equivalent regconized by the Council for the purposes of this Clause
  • Have had experience for at least 3 years in responsible work which demands a knowledge of physics or its applications as shall satisfy the Council
• OR (B) Both of the following:
  • Have been educated as a physicist in a manner satisfactory to the Council and have obtained a degree or its equivalent regconized by the Council for the purposes of this Clause or satisfied the Council that he possess an equivalent knowledge or physics and cognate subjects considered appropriate by the Council
  • Have had experience for not less than 5 years of responsible work which demands a knowledge of physics or its applications as shall satisfy the Council

Fellow & Honorary Fellow

Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Fellow of the Institute shall have attained the age of 30 years and at least

• 7 years as member and directly working in physics
• 10 years in physics applications, which satisfy the Council

Distinguised persons intimately connected with physics or a science allied thereto whom the Institute especially desires to honour for exceptionally important services.
