Abstract:
The fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of microchannel heat sinks with micro-fins were investigated. A comparative study was performed between the proposed heat sinks and the conventional rectangular microchannel heat sink. The result shows that the extended surface enhances the heat transfer performance. The presence of micro-fins in the heat sinks helps to disrupt the thermal boundary layer and also increases the pressure drop. The performance of the microchannel heat sink with micro-fins is found to be 16 % higher than its rectangular counterpart.
